Kirksville Primary Helpful Hints

Helpful Hints for Parents of Primary Students

PLEASE NOTE! The start time for the beginning of school is 8:10 am.
Students should be in their classrooms at that time in order for
attendance and lunch counts to be taken.

As our building is
securely locked down, if your child is tardy it will be necessary for a
parent or guardian to bring the child into the office before they can
go to class.

Please have your child at school by 8:00 (and no earlier than 7:30)
to ensure a smooth start to the school day. Late arrivals after 8:30
will receive the #3 lunch choice (cheese sandwich). If your child will
be late due to a doctor or dental appointment, please call the office
the day before and we will be glad to order their lunch. However,
due to how busy our office is between 7:00-8:30 each morning, we
will be unable to accommodate calls to order lunch if you are simply
“running late”.

1. Please call the office by 8:30 when your child will be absent. If we do
not receive a call, we will be contacting you regarding the reason for the
absence.

2. Please notify the office of any changes in your address, phone
number or emergency contact information. We MUST have a number
to reach you in case of illness or an emergency.

3. Send lunch money in an envelope with your child’s first & last name,
teacher’s name and amount sent.

4. Check your child’s backpack and read any notes sent home with your child
daily. Teachers may send out classroom newsletters more frequently.

5. In an effort to be sensitive to children with food allergies and promote
safety for our students, only pre-packaged store bought items will be
allowed to be brought to school for parties or special events. No home made food items will be
permitted for parties or events. Our Food Service will partner with parents in cases where parents would
like to purchase special kitchen made items.

6. PLEASE send a note or call the office NO LATER than 2:30 each time your
child will be taking a different way home. With 27 classrooms we must have time
to get messages to teachers to ensure safety. Please don’t tell your child to “tell
your teacher”. Sometimes children forget or get confused. We want to make sure
your child is safe and gets home the correct way.
If your child normally goes to the YMCA after school, please don’t forget to
contact them (as well as our office) on days they won’t be attending.

7. Put your child’s first & last name on any item that your child brings to school and
check the lost and found table periodically to claim any items.

8. Medications MUST be taken to school and picked up by the parent. Medication
must be in the original bottle and given to the nurse.

9. ALWAYS sign in and out of the office and wear a visitor’s badge when visiting
the Primary.

10.ALWAYS sign your child out of the office when leaving early. In order to
promote good attendance, we encourage you to schedule appointments such as
dental, doctor, hair appointments, etc. on days we are out of school, early out
dates or after school hours.

11.Please leave toys at home unless it is a special occasion in the classroom and
approved by the teacher.

12.Please be patient and courteous in the parent pick-up line each day.

13.If your child will be riding a bus to and from school, encourage them to ride the
first day of school.
